Boris Dlugosch
What are the basic fundamentals needed to truly understand music?
1. You have to love music as a whole. The beats, the rhythm, the bass, the melodies, the structure, all of it.
2. You have to invest a lot of time to completely grasp the differences between each culture and the various genres which have evolved out of it.
3. You need to stay young and open-minded, because you might age but music itself will surely never grow a gray hair.
If these three vital aspects are genuinely embodied by one person, then the chances are pretty big that he will enjoy music for the rest of his entire life and probably make a damn good living of it.
Boris Dlugosch clearly exemplifies all of the above. This is undeniably the reason why after more than 20 crazy years, this first class producer and DJ is still relevant to everybody. Not just clubbers who lived through the house scene which emerged in the late 80`s (Boris was the German protagonist during this period), but also Indie-Tronic kids from the here and now.
The Hamburg native has been able to adapt, mutate and evolve with the music surrounding him. Time is not an issue for this man, it`s an exciting challenge. And Boris undoubtedly beat all these odds with the slightest of ease. Why? Because he honestly loves music. He can`t go a single day without it, it is a life-long addiction with no cure in sight. Rock, Hip-Hop, Funk, Disco, Techno, Jazz, everything is devotedly embraced by him. It should be no surprise to anyone then, that his sets cover the full history of electronic beats and rhythms. His vision of opposing scenes finding together when sun sets, so they can then peacefully celebrate under one mutual belief, the true essence of music, has often become reality. Most DJs would crumble and falter, because their concept of music is limited. Specializing in just one branch, it is just a question of time until their time is up. But for somebody like Boris Dlugosch, who has always been capable of understanding the progression of this beautiful art form, there are no real boundaries. This guy might rock a joint around the corner in 20 years to come, it could happen. Just listen to his latest production Bangkok, it is so fucking cutting edge, you would not believe it.
One would expect this track to come out of the feather of a hipster teenager, when in fact a cool veteran is responsible for the sound of tomorrow. The hipper than hipster Erol Alkan picked up on the 12inch and instantly released it on his own label Phantasy Sound, certainly an honor for every producer. Red hot acts such as the Crookers, A-Trak, Diplo, Boys Noize, Jack Beats, Busy P, MSTRKRFT and Kissy Sell Out are also going bonkers about Bangkok. With this fresh track under his belt and his extremely popular NJoy radio-show, Boris Dlugosch is de novo looking ahead. What else does this man have in store for us in the near future?
Another brand new 12inch is about to surface and should once again display his God given ability to comprehend each and every layer of music. Wait there is more, expect a sizzling remix of the Boys Noize übertrack Sweet Light in 2010. Wow!
Keeping all this in mind, there should be no reason for this more than experienced German to be afraid of the future. Understanding the past, living the present and seeing the future, Boris Dlugosch is here to stay...
